New CMS Superintendent to speak at Chamber July Education Luncheon

The Lake Norman Chamber will host new Charlotte Mecklenburg School Superintendent Dr. Heath Morrison on Thursday, July 19th at NorthStone Country Club in Huntersville to detail his Entry Plan.  It will be Dr. Morrison’s first appearance in North Mecklenburg.  The July Education PowerLuncheon will be held at 11:45 am until 1:15 pm and is sponsored by Hendrick NORTHLAKE LUXURY AUTO MALL, Boatsman Gillmore, PLLC, and Business Today.  The cost is $16 for Chamber members before July 12 and $20 after July 12.  Dr. Morrison’s plan includes:

1.  To focus organizational efforts and align resources to ensure all students are college and career-ready and achievement gaps are closed

2.  To establish and promote highly effective district governance by building a trusting, productive, collaborative relationship with the  Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education

3.  To increase organizational effectiveness and efficiency and ensure high performance and support to schools

4.  To establish a respectful, positive district culture centered on teaching and learning

5.  To build public trust capital and confidence through open, honest communication and positive relationships

Chamber recognizes Cool Breeze Cyclery as 2012 Small Business of the Year

The Chamber selected Mooresville’s Cool Breeze Cyclery as the 2012 Small Business of the Year.  Chamber Chairman of the Board Jack Salzman presented the award to owners Steve Doolittle and Chris Vasiloff at a reception held at the Chamber Thursday, May 24th.  The business carries Trek, Gary Fisher Signature, and Cervelo bikes with 12 full-time employees.  They have two locations in Mooresville and Charlotte.

The Chamber also recognized Pat Helmandollar of Savvy Salon and Day Spa in Cornelius as the runner-up.   In addition to the winner and runner-up, the Chamber also recognized The Welcome Committee, Inc. in Mooresville and Uncommon Scents, Inc. in Huntersville as two outstanding small businesses who were cited as Honorable Mentions.

Max Daetwyler Corporation Selected as 2012 MICA Award Winner

Max Daetwyler Corporation in Huntersville, a Swiss-owned company that provides high-quality solutions to the printing industry through manufacturing, services, and support professionals was recognized this past month as the 2012 Charlotte Mayor’s International Community Awards recipient in the Medium Company category.  Ralph Daetwyler, president of the company, received the award.  The MICA ceremony highlights the philanthropic accomplishments of nine finalist companies and two individual award winners that embody Charlotte’s international community. Dale Gilmore, with Boatsman Gillmore, PLLC, is treasurer of the Executive Board with the Charlotte International Cabinet.  It was exciting to see Ralph and his company receive this recognition in the presence of the Charlotte International business community.  Congratulations Ralph!  

Fundraiser to benefit Big Day at the Lake 8

The Range at Lake Norman will host The Big Lake SHOOTOUT on Saturday June 2 at The Range at Lake Norman.  It will feature Jeff Kent of 99.7.   The Fox with a live remote from 2:30 to 4:30.  Just $10 to shoot includes 10 rounds of ammunition.  A portion of the proceeds will benefit Big Day at the Lake and Big Brothers / Big Sisters of Greater Charlotte.
